JAMILYN
MORRIS
CELLO

Cellist Jamilyn Morris seamlessly blends organization with creativity in both her teaching and performance. A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, she began her cello studies at age 12 with Richard Hoyt under the Suzuki Method. Her passion for the cello and chamber music flourished during her studies with Anne Francis and the Fry Street Quartet at Utah State University, as well as with Bruce Uchimura and the Merling Trio at Western Michigan University. While pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Utah, Jamilyn was the cellist of the Graduate String Quartet and played a key role in establishing the University Preparatory Strings Division, where she began teaching.
Jamilyn’s teaching career has been extensive. She has served as adjunct music faculty at Salt Lake Community College and was the program director of Sistema Utah at American Preparatory Academy. Currently, she runs a thriving private cello studio in Sugarhouse, Utah, and serves as the Cello Chair for the Utah Chapter of the National Federation of Music Clubs. She regularly performs as the cellist with the Maywood String Quartet and the Salt Lake Choral Artists.
Jamilyn’s dedication to the Suzuki Method is central to her teaching philosophy. She has trained with renowned instructors, including Carey Cheney, David Evenchick, Alice Ann O'Neill, Avi Friedlander, and Carey Beth Hockett, striving to integrate the method into her pedagogy and daily practice.
When not immersed in music, Jamilyn enjoys spending time dancing in the kitchen with her two daughters, indulging in Netflix marathons, or savoring a well-deserved afternoon nap.
